About the project

SHARE INDIA with support from CDC, intends to strengthen the Infection Prevention Control (IPC), Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in designated sites across various states in India. Currently the project is in the process of getting clearances for implementing these activities in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

About the position:

We are looking for a prospective candidate, who is a self-starter, with strong commitment and ability to work; good communication skills; willingness to efficiently work under pressure and balance competing priorities in a demanding work environment. Reporting to the Public Health, the candidate will have the following roles and responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Support strategic implementation of the infection prevention and control (IPC) related project activities in healthcare facilities identified by the respective State governments in the project implementing states
2. Work in close coordination with the IPC focal points / Hospital Infection Control Committees (Public and private sector) and provide technical assistance and mentorship of IPC related activities within the healthcare facilities and the state health system.
3. Participate in regular meetings and discussions with SHARE INDIA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Directorates of Public Health, Medical Services, Medical Education and State Quality Assurance Cell under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and other stakeholders
4. Conduct on-site assessments of designated healthcare facilities using standard tools and SOPs.
5. Ensure correct and consistent use of standard assessment tools during data collection and assist in data entry, compilation, analysis and reporting.
6. Recommend and document innovative strategies and new approaches
7. Support developing action summary reports and recommendations to the facilities and MoHFW in the project implementing states
8. Support the healthcare facilities to implement improvements in the hospitals to comply with state and national accreditation standards
9. Support preparation of monthly/quarterly and periodic technical reports and facilitate conducting meetings/workshops/training programs related to IPC, AMR and HAI surveillance for the network hospitals.
10. Provide technical assistance for delivering standard training modules and teaching aids to build skills of healthcare workers
11. Providing technical support to the hospitals to conduct surveillance of health-care associated infections (HAI) and anti-microbial resistance (AMR)
12. Support analysis of data generated from the IPC assessments and HAI surveillance and communicate findings to key stakeholders on time as part of quality improvement cycle
13. Provide regular reports and crucial communication from the field to SHARE INDIA supervisors and designated partners
14. Undertake any other activities, as assigned by the supervisor

Essential Qualification and experience:
• BSc Nursing with permanent registration number from Indian Nursing Council
• 4 years of experience post-qualification on ward-based nursing in India
• Experience providing training or mentoring

Desired Qualification and experience:
• Experience on quality improvement and accreditation of health care systems will be an added advantage
• Hands-on experience working on IPC
• A master’s in public health, or an advanced qualification in the field of nursing or equivalent qualification in a relevant field

Preferred skills, competences and experience:
1. Skilled at multitasking and prioritizing; working independently with minimal supervision
2. Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills, as well as confidence in working with senior colleagues
3. Commitment to creating sustainable systems and capacity building in low resource settings
4. Takes responsibility for decision making and efficient resource management and holds teams accountable for delivery of their responsibilities by delegating effectively
5. Sets ambitious and challenging goals for themselves (and their team), takes responsibility for their own personal development and encourages others to do the same
6. An approachable, good listener, easy to talk to and inspiring communicator who builds and maintains effective relationships.
7. Experience using adult learning principles
8. A strong commitment to partnership; working in challenging environments.
9. Ability to write concise and actionable reports including a pre- and post- training evaluation reports
10. Excellent working knowledge of MS Office-Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, e-mail applications etc. Knowledge of other applications virtual meeting and analytical tools would be useful
11. Strives to keep evolving knowledge up-to-date, through self-directed study and other means of learning

Compensation offered:

The gross remuneration budgeted for this position is attractive. Offers shall commensurate with the qualifications, the last drawn compensation and experience of the selected candidate

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Support and promote strategic implementation of the infection prevention and control (IPC) related project activities in healthcare facilities identified by the respective State governments in the project implementing states
2. Support facilities to enhance patient safety by advocating to decision makers about the burden and importance of healthcare-associated infections (HAI) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR); contribute to prevention of HAI and AMR
3. Work in close coordination with the IPC focal points / Hospital Infection Control Committees (Public and private sector) and provide technical assistance and mentorship of IPC related activities within the healthcare facilities and the state health system. Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with all the stakeholders to enable smooth implementation of IPC activities
4. Participate in regular meetings and discussions with SHARE INDIA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Directorates of Public Health, Medical Services, Medical Education and State Quality Assurance Cell under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and other stakeholders
5. Conduct on-site assessments of designated healthcare facilities using standard tools and SOPs
6. Ensure correct and consistent use of standard assessment tools during data collection and assist in data entry, compilation, analysis and reporting
7. Recommend and document innovative strategies and new approaches
8. Support developing action summary reports and recommendations to the facilities and MoHFW in the project implementing states. Support systematic collection of qualitative and quantitative information for any activity conducted in the project and disseminate the information through reader-friendly reports with recommendations
9. Support the healthcare facilities to implement improvements in the hospitals to comply with state and national accreditation standards. Support quality and timely implementation of the recommended activities, across all facilities in the project sites
10. Support preparation of monthly/quarterly and periodic technical reports and facilitate conducting meetings/workshops/training programs related to IPC, AMR and HAI surveillance for the network hospitals
11. Support the development of IPC core competency skills in healthcare workers through training, and mentoring of designated IPC hospital staffs
12. Providing technical support to the hospitals to facilitate implementation, follow-up and evaluation of HAI and AMR surveillance programs
13. Support the use of continuous quality improvement methods in the facilities through training, and mentoring of designated IPC hospital staffs
14. Support analyses of data generated from the IPC assessments and HAI surveillance and communicate findings to key stakeholders on time as part of quality improvement cycle
15. Provide regular reports and crucial information from the field to Project Officer – IPC, IPC expert and designated partners
16. Undertake any other activities, as assigned by the Project Officer – IPC and Public Health Specialist
