With funding from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), SHARE INDIA supports Government of India institutions in advancing Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) priorities. The project focuses on health systems strengthening through:

• Surveillance and outbreak response, including mortality surveillance and laboratory diagnostics capacity.
• Mapping resources to enhance surveillance for priority diseases.
• Building capacity in outbreak response, laboratory support, quality assurance, real-time reporting, and data analysis.
• Conducting SWOT analyses of interventions and disseminating findings.

The project is anchored in New Delhi, with interventions across select states.

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and committed Consultant, One Health to support strategic implementation of One Health initiatives. The role requires strong analytical and written communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a collaborative approach in a dynamic environment. The position is contractual for one year, with the possibility of extension as the project is expected to continue.

Designation: Consultant – One Health
Reporting to: Programme Lead, BOLSTER
Key Responsibilities

Technical
• Support strategic implementation of One Health activities in coordination with the Center for One Health (COH), National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and CDC India.
• Facilitate collaborative surveillance of priority zoonotic diseases with relevant Government of India stakeholders.

Coordination
• Coordinate with state health departments, COH, IDSP, and CDC India on One Health and surveillance activities.
• Collaborate closely with state health authorities, SHARE INDIA’s data analysts, and other stakeholders to provide technical guidance and mentorship in data analytics.
• Maintain regular communication with state-level stakeholders.
Documentation & Reporting
• Conduct district-level training, monitoring, and assessments (up to 50% travel).
• Develop and write SoPs, training modules, communication materials, manuscripts, and scientific reports.
Capacity Building & Mentoring
• Support One Health capacity-building activities across states.
• Deliver on-site training, mentoring, and monitoring of healthcare facilities using standardized tools and SOPs.
Advocacy & Representation
• Participate in and document meetings with CDC India, MoHFW, NCDC, state governments, state level stakeholder and other partners.
• Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual progress reports.
• Undertake additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential:
• Degree in Medicine or Public Health (or related field).
• Strong English communication skills (oral and written).
• Willingness to travel extensively across India.
Preferred:
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in public health.
• Familiarity with the Indian public health system.
• Experience in scientific writing and preparation of concise, actionable reports.
• Commitment to continuous learning and knowledge enhancement.
Compensation
Remuneration will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications, experience, and last drawn salary.

Reporting to: Programme Lead, BOLSTER
Technical
Primary:
• Provide support to implement the Surveillance related activities in the State in coordination with Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP), National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi.
• Support strategic implementation One Health related activities in the state in coordination with Center for One Health (COH), National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi.
• Guide the Surveillance Share India team on day-to-day basis for task to be done on priority.
Coordination • Coordinate and work with state government health & animal husbandry departments, IDSP, COH and CDC India on the various Surveillance and One Health related activities including collaborative surveillance.
• Work in close coordination with the state health authorities and other stakeholders.
• Work in close coordination with the state IDSP data team, State One Health cell, technical support unit at NCDC, data analyst at SHARE, and other stakeholders to provide technical guidance, support and mentorship in data analytics.
• Coordinate and communicate with various related stakeholders at State and National level

Documentation & Reporting

• Travel to districts (30% of work time) and conduct on-site training, monitoring and assessments using standard tools and SOPs.
• Undertake framing and writing of SoPs, training and communication materials, Manuscript writing and scientific writing for the project.
Capacity building and Mentoring

• Support strategic implementation of Surveillance and One Health related activities in select states
• Conduct on-site training, monitoring and assessments of designated healthcare facilities using standard tools and SOPs.
Advocacy and representation

• Participate in meetings at state level, with CDC India, MOHFW, NCDC, State Government and other stakeholders.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual progress reports on the progress of the project at the state level.
Essential qualification

• Medical or public health background (relevant degree/s)
• Excellent English oral and written communication skills
• Willingness to travel anywhere in India.
Desirable experience

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in public health.
• Familiarity with the Indian public health system.
• Experience in scientific writing and preparation of concise, actionable reports.
